Setting up a CNAME record for any one of the domain addresses or subdomains you have within a hosting account will enable you to point it to a different domain/subdomain. The forwarded domain will lose all its records - A, MX etc, and will take the records of the Internet domain it's being pointed to. In this light, you simply can't set up a CNAME record to point your domain name to a third-party company and keep a functional email service with the first hosting provider. Also, it is important to note that a CNAME record is always a string of words rather than a number as it's generally confused with the A record of the domain being redirected. One of the major uses of a CNAME record is to forward a domain that you own through one company to the servers of another company when you have created a site with the latter. This way, the Internet site will appear under your own domain, not under some subdomain provided by the third-party company.

CNAME Records in Web Hosting

If you have a web hosting plan from our company and you wish to create a CNAME record, it'll take you only a few clicks to make it happen. You can access the DNS records for all domain names and subdomains hosted inside your account via the Hepsia CP offered with each plan and adding a new record is as easy as clicking on a button, selecting the type, which is CNAME in this case, typing the actual record value and saving the change. In case you have never added such a record before, we have a Help section with a detailed video tutorial that you can watch, or you can just contact us and we'll help you with this task. If you have set up an Internet site through another company, you want to use a private URL for your webmail or you want to designate a subdomain for use with the services of a different company, such as Google Apps, all it takes is setting up a CNAME record with a few mouse clicks within your CP.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which comes with each of our semi-dedicated server accounts, will allow you to set up a CNAME record easily. Whether you want to create a private URL for your e-mails, to forward a domain address to a subdomain within the account or to forward a domain name to another provider and use some third-party service that they provide, it will not take you more than 3 mouse clicks to create this sort of record. All DNS records for the domain names and subdomains hosted inside the semi-dedicated account are going to be listed in a separate section in the CP, so when you're there, all you will have to do will be to select the type of the record that you want to set up and the hostname for which you are creating it, and then input the actual record text. For your benefit, you can see a short video within the CP about how to set up a CNAME record or you can refer to the instructions in the help article, which is available in the DNS records section.
