Each registered domain name has a minimum of two Name Server records which show where it is hosted i.e. by using these records you direct your domain name to the servers of a particular hosting company. That way, you have both your website and your e-mails managed by the exact same provider. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), nevertheless, there are lots of other records, for instance A and MX. The former reveals which server handles the site for a given Internet domain and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the latter shows which server handles the e-mails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). For instance, whenever you type a domain name in your browser, your request is sent through the global DNS system to the company whose NS records the domain address uses and from there you will be directed to the servers of a different provider in case you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your Internet domain. Having different records for the site and the emails means that you may have your website and your e-mails with 2 different companies if you would like.

Custom MX and A Records in Web Hosting

If you have a web hosting account through our company and you want to move either your website or your emails to a different service provider, it's going to take you literally only two clicks to do so. Our Hepsia Control Panel comes with an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domains and subdomains will be listed alphabetically and you'll be able to see and change the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you want to use a different email provider and they ask you to create more MX records than the default 2, it's not going to take more than a few clicks either to add them. You can also set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the bigger the priority a particular MX record will have. The propagation of any record that you change or create is not going to take more than several hours and if necessary, you'll also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, that reveals how long a record will remain active after it's modified or deleted.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

The Hepsia hosting CP, provided with our Linux semi-dedicated hosting packages, will enable you to see the A and MX records for each of the domain addresses or subdomains in your account and if required, to update any of them or set up new ones. Controlling these records is incredibly easy because all domains/subdomains will be listed alphabetically, so modifying a record is as easy as entering it in a box and saving the change. Creating a new one takes a few more clicks and in case you experience any problems, you can check out our video tutorials on how to create A and MX records. Our system is user-friendly enough to be used by individuals with no previous experience, yet sophisticated enough to offer you total control of all records and to allow you to have different A records even for domain.com and www.domain.com. If you are switching your e-mails to a different company and they ask you to set up more than two different MX records, you can choose the priority of each one.
